| Once again it’s the time of year when parents think about the CAST Most Beautiful Baby Contest at the Clearfield County Fair. The annual contest has become a popular feature at the Fair. This year’s Clearfield County Fair runs Sunday, August 1 through Saturday, August 7. All babies from birth through the age of 36 months are welcome to enter the contest. Parent(s) can register their babies in the contest beginning Monday, July 26 at the CAST Building at 112 E. Locust Street in downtown Clearfield (use side/alley door) during business hours of Monday through Friday from 9:15 am to 12:15pm and 1:30pm to 4:15pm or they can register them on opening day Sunday from 1pm to 5pm at the Most Beautiful Baby Contest booth in Expo II. The registration fee is $3.00. First, second and third place winners will each receive a beautiful engraved trophy and each winner’s parents will receive tickets to opening night of the comedy REMEMBER ME?, the CAST live theatre September presentation. This year something new has been added. The first place winner of the CAST Most Beautiful Baby Contest at The Clearfield County Fair will be invited to appear onstage Opening Night as a baby munchkin in the CAST December live theatre production of THE WIZARD OF OZ! All the parents need to do is decorate an 11 oz (coffee) or a comparable size can (no large cans please) complete with the baby’s picture and name. Parents can use ribbons, contact paper, buttons, stickers, etc. to decorate. (No staples please.) Photos should be put directly on the can with tape or glue. The money is taken out of the can and counted each night so it is important to decorate the can in such a way that the lid can be taken off and put on easily. If twins or siblings are entered in the contest, each child must have his or her own can. Since the money is counted by hand, pennies are gently discouraged. “People sometimes ask if they can have money in the can when they register and the answer is yes,” said a CAST spokesperson. “Sometimes people have relatives or friends from out of town who want to vote for the baby and that’s fine.” The Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre is a non profit multi arts center and Central Pa’ s home of the arts. All money from the contest will help CAST continue the theatrical productions and their many arts programs. Anyone with questions is welcome to call the CAST Office during business hours and speak with Sue or Ruth. The number is 765-4474.
